Some sad news

Good Afternoon,

As all of you are aware this year has been a tough one to hold together, so this news just figures to be more of the same.  As of last night I was put in a position where I will need to cancel the rest of the series for 2014.  For the sake of not throwing anyone under the bus in a public forum I am not going to discuss the details, but if you want more info I will be happy to discuss it with you in a more appropriate way.  Needless to say Alison and I are very disappointed and feel let down and that we have disappointed all of you that have worked so hard to race on these few occasions.

If you have registered for a race I will be going through the process of refunding all of your fee’s in the coming days.  You should get an email and notice that the funds have been refund electronically.

Moving forward.   As we have discussed openly in the past we have over the past two seasons endeavored to make things better for METTS.  I think that last year we made strides in that direction and this year at best we did not do as well.  There are many factors that have lead to this.  The largest issue in our minds is that lack of ability and or desire there is for cycling clubs to run these races and as such Alison and I found that we needed to run these races on our own to make them happen.  This was becoming more and more difficult and personally expensive.  The flip side of that coin is that we also enjoyed doing it so these out of pocket costs where okay as long as they didn’t get too high.  The next issue is just as frustrating, the desire to make the series easier to manage by using as few services as possible.  In the end when you cannot get everyone to work from one page the idea dies, no matter how much you plan, or how much you put into it.  Alison and I both feel that the series can move on but with the exception of a few races (Biddiford, Cape E, Bethel, and Poland) that there can only be a few (2 or 3) other races that Alison and I can run without being spread too thin.

After what was a very frustrating evening last night Alison and I will need a little time to process what we want to do.  We want the series to still be alive and well in 2015, but we need to decide if we will be the ones at the helm.  I will be posting soon whats going on in the coming months.  If any of you would like to have a conversation ob METTS and its future please feel free to email me through this site.

Best Regards,

Derek

This Weekend

Good Afternoon,

Unfortunately this weekend race has been cancelled due to insurance issues.  As all of you may know these races can get difficult to run sue to insurance concerns of businesses and city’s in which they occur.  Sorry for the short notice but just got final confirmation this morning.

Derek

This Weekends Race in Topsham has been postponed.

Sorry for the short notice but due to some issues with timing we will not be able to hold the race this weekend.  Right now we are looking at either 07/27 or 08/31 to hold this race.  If you have registered and want to be refunded your fee please email me your mailing address as BikeReg has already sent me a check and I will need to send you the refund directly.

Sorry,

UPDATED Points Standing After Race #3 in Freeport

I have just updated the points standings and there has been some leaps in position is a couple areas.  I have added a column showing if you have gone up or down in the standings.  I think it will be a great motivator or at least a hell of a lot of work for me!

As you will see Ivy Lurhs, Hank Pfeifle, and Valerie Enriquez have made large gains as of this weekend.  Ivy jumped five places and now finds herself in 2nd place, Hank jumped eight places and is up to fifth overall, and Valerie jumped three places and finds herself in first place in the Merckx division.

As for the rest of our competitors there has been some movement but we still see Fred Thomas dominating the Aero Division with  120 points, Carrie McCusker with 77 points followed closely by Ivy Lurhs with 74 points in the Aero Division.

The Merckx Division finds Valerie Enriquez  with a strong lead with 74 points, 34 points ahead of Lisa Harkin with 40 points.  In the Male Merckx Division we have Adam Lampton dominating with 105 points a huge 65 point margin!

We are shaping up for a really awesome points competition!

Freeport TT Results, Race #3 of the 2014 METTS Season

Good Afternoon Everyone,

What can I say other than that we had a great day to race on Sunday.  When I am the director of a race I am always nervous, is everything set, timer, sweeping, volunteers, registration, police, etc…?  Alison and I always want a safe, fun, and fast race, this one was just that.  This year at the request of the police we had to make a course change and I believe that it was for the better and feed back given to Alison seems to confirm that.  Maybe we have found a course that will stick!

I would like to single out one racer who made an impression on me his name is Chachi Dilworth and this little man is 11 years old and did he work hard.  The tale of the clock may not reflect a super fast time but it does show a great deal of heart.  We hope very much to see this young man and many more like him going forward.  Congratulations Chachi!

Okay enough of this sentimental stuff, here are the results from Sunday!

Thanks Everyone for another great race day!  Thanks also to my wife Alison, my mom Gail, and Penny for all your help.

Derek
